Papers accumulated by Graves during his tenure as secretary and assistant to Governor Smith, including some from his predecessor, George Van Namee. Included are correspondence, telegrams, memoranda, speech material, clippings, and printed matter. Correspondence is largely routine in nature and includes congratulatory messages, letters of praise, invitations, applications for positions, charitable pleas, and advice on issues. Also, correspondence with Democratic Party leaders and other politicians reflecting Smith's interests in national and state affairs. Relatively few letters signed by Governor Smith are found in this collection.
